Small article (no spoilers) by What’s on TV with Matthew talking about the second season:
A second series of the Victoria crime drama Ripper Street has started filming in Dublin.
The BBC One hit series, set in the grim environment of London’s Whitechapel, has reunited lead actors Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg as Victorian crime-fighters Inspector Reid, Sergeant Drake and Captain Jackson.
Matthew said: “It’s fantastic to begin shooting in Dublin again for the second series of Ripper Street - and to be reunited with much of the wonderful cast and crew from last year. Also to be reunited with my bowler hat - I’d missed it.
“The show’s creator Richard Warlow has given us two wonderful, strange and unsettling opening episodes, teeming with the fierce and fragile life of Victorian Whitechapel.”
As the 19th Century enters its final decade, the streets teeter on the brink of moral collapse, and nowhere is the declining British Empire’s problems felt more keenly than in its dark heart: the East End of London. Myanna Buring returns as brothel madam Long Susan, while Joseph Mawle joins the cast as the corrupt and amoral Inspector Jebediah Shine, here to test the good men of Leman Street to their limits.
Series two of Ripper Street will screen in 2014.
